These are stills from 16MM film tests I captured during May and June in preparation for my thesis production shoot, Backcountry, Red Clay. I shot on Kodak Vision 250D, 500T, and a B&W stock. The goal was to create an assemblage of blurred movement, to experiment with distorted, fractured images, and to capture various shades of Black skin on 16mm stock.
From May until July, I reclaimed myself as a filmmaker in theory and in practice. I struggled through so much self-doubt and internal challenges to create something I feel is really beautiful and heart-felt. Ultimately, I fell back in love with the messy, vulnerable process of creation.

Thank you for this offering, beautiful imagery and my dear friend is witnessed here. Creatives that are doing the work silently still matter. ✨
